WASC Accreditation

In January 2016, Granada Islamic School has been granted another 6-year accreditation status through June 30, 2022 by the Accrediting Commission for Schools, Western Association of Schools and Colleges (ACS WASC).

What is WASC?

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (http://www.acswasc.org/) is one of six regional accrediting associations in the United States. It extends its services to a variety of public and private schools.

Why is accreditation important?

The accreditation process validates the integrity of a school’s program and student transcripts. Accreditation fosters excellence and ongoing improvement in public and private schools. The accreditation process assures a school community that the school’s purposes are appropriate and being accomplished through a viable educational program. Accreditation helps a school to establish its priority areas for improvement.

Mid-Term Visit (March 2012)

2011-12 was our 3rd year of our 6-year term of our WASC accreditation, and we had a mid-term visit in March 2012. The 2-member Visiting Committee met with the School Board members and the Leadership Team members and checked the status on our Action Plans. A report was written and presented to the Visiting Committee; this report documented the changes in our school profile and the progress done on our Action Plans during the 3 years since their last visit. Our report also showed documentation of all the critical areas that have been addressed.  The Visiting Committee was delighted to visit our school again and to interact with students and teachers during their walk-through. They were impressed with our progress and accomplishments on our Action Plans.
